Guest Instructors & Workshops

Classes and workshops have been a part of Botany & Co. since the beginning. Sharing our love and joy for plants and beautiful things is baked into our DNA and very much a core part of who we are and strive to be as a local, independent business. Sharing knowledge, skills, techniques, and treasures is a vital form of community-building and is essential for vibrant places.

In this spirit, we are now welcoming proposals for guest instructors!

If this gets you excited, consider the following.

  • What’s something special that you want to share with our community?

  • What’s something you wish more people knew about when it comes to growing plants, cultivating beauty, or preserving vital skills?

  • How could we collaborate to help you share what you love with more people?

  • Does sharing what you love spark joy?

We are so excited to welcome knowledgeable experts and artisans, along with their craft, their tools, their knowledge, and their skills, into our spaces later this year.

Most of all, we can’t wait for you to discover something new and connect with someone new in a place you’re proud to call home.

Proposals are welcome through Wednesday, July 2 for workshops in the second half of 2025, August-December. We'll open proposals for 2026 in a few months.

  • We’ve created an online proposal form, and you can submit your ideas here through Wednesday, July 2.We’re asking you to help us think through a lot of the important details, so plan to spend at least 10-15/minutes per proposal.

If you’d like to submit multiple ideas, please submit a proposal for each discrete workshop (unless they’re all connected, like a 101, 102, 103 series - those could all be part of the same proposal).

  • If you have a special skill, talent, technique, art form, experience, product, or process you wish more people knew about - especially within the context of plants and community - we’d love to see a proposal from you.

  • From gardening and plant care to the creative arts and practical, every-day skills, we’re eager to welcome your ideas on a range of topics.

If it feels like it’s something you wish more people knew about and would make their lives/the world better, it’s probably a good fit.

  • BOTANY & Co. will manage ticketing, promotions, venue set-up/tear-down, customer service, and guest check-in & reception for all programs and workshops. This is all-inclusive with a $15/ticket collaboration service fee. Fees are retained by Botany and help us cover vital operating expenses so we can continue to make these spaces and programs available.

The collaboration service fee also covers access to and use of one of Botany’s community gathering spaces, The Studio and The Lot Next Door, which include:

    • Wi-fi and access to power.

    • Tables and chairs.

    • All-gender restroom.

    • Artisan, chilled beverages available for purchase by guests.

    • Access to/use of 10x20 pop-up tents (outdoor only, five available).

    • Water (mop sink indoors and garden hose available outdoors)

    • Free parking, both in Botany’s lot and nearby neighborhood lots and streets.

  • Guest instructors may choose to be compensated in one of two ways.

For instructors that prefer to be compensated PER TICKET, a $15 collaboration service fee will be added to the ticket price in addition to the fees requested by the instructor.

Ideal for workshops with variable costs like materials and supplies for each participant.

Your time/expertise should also be included in your per/ticket proposal.

    • For example, if you require $40/person to cover your time + materials for each participant, and with Botany's fee of $15/person, the ticket price paid by the public will be $55.

For instructors that prefer to be compensated at a FLAT RATE, ticket price will be determined by dividing the requested rate by 4, our minimum enrollment.

Ideal for workshops with fixed costs that are mostly informational or demonstration-based.

    • For example, if you are requesting a flat fee of $100 for leading an informational workshop, your ticket price will be $25/person. There is no $15/collaboration fee with flat rate programs, and Botany retains all ticket revenue once the minimum enrollment is achieved.

Instructors will be paid your share of ticket revenue within 7-14 days of the successful conclusion of a workshop.

  • We’re in this together. BOTANY & Co. is ready and excited to share your workshop with our community, and will promote all guest instructor programs in the following ways.

    • Inclusion on a monthly events calendar, published and pinned to BOTANY & Co.’s social media pages. If available, your pages will be tagged/added as a collaborator.

    • Program listing on BOTANY & Co.’s website calendar.

    • Inclusion in our e-mail newsletter ~4-6 weeks in advance of your program.

    • Ticketing platform management including customer service.

    • We may elevate a specific workshop in a targeted social media posting at our discretion.

In your proposal, we’ll ask what ways you are able to collaborate with Botany to help us promote your workshop. This could look like cross-posting on your social media account, sending an email to your friends and family, inviting coworkers and neighbors, etc.

Ultimately, you are going to be the best champion and ambassador for your workshop, and your friends, family, and followers will be some of our most likely attendees. We want every workshop to be a success.

  • Indoor programs in The Studio/The Botany Shop can accommodate up to eight guests, plus the instructor.

Outdoor programs in The Lot Next Door can accommodate up to sixteen guests, plus the instructor.

Botany & Co. requires a minimum enrollment of 4 guests per workshop.

    • Please carry out what you carry in (and we can help with that).

    • Please be prepared to promote our collaboration to your friends and followers.

    • We value our guest’s experience, and together, we’re on a mission to make memories.

    • Please be respectful of our spaces and help us return them to how you found them. Set the next person up for success (even if that person is you).

  • Our team will begin reviewing submissions and our calendar availability after the proposal deadline on July 2.

We’ll then reach out to all accepted proposals with a refined list of available dates and times to choose from, based on what other things may be happening on our calendar, along with a draft program title and description for marketing.

Expect invitations to arrive on or around Wednesday, July 16.

Once you, the instructor, confirm the date, time, and description, we’ll send you an instructor contract to review and this will confirm the workshop on our calendar.

We’ll be publishing confirmed workshops on a rolling 6-week timeline, so if your workshop isn’t until early December, expect to see it posted in mid-October. For workshops in mid-late August, expect to see them posted ASAP, and we’ll be prioritizing proposals/confirmations with August availability in our review process.

Once your tickets are live, you’ll work directly with a Botany team member leading up to and during your workshop to plan, promote, and execute your offering.

We’re not sure how many proposals to expect, and we’re grateful for your patience and grace as we discover and learn this process together.

Cheers to the journey. We’re in this together - let’s make magic and memories!
